In line with its role in regulating media activities, the field teams of the General Authority for Media Regulation raided warehouses storing electronic games that violated the Authority's regulations and guidelines in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam. Over 5,000 electronic game discs that did not comply with the classification approved by the General Authority for Media Regulation and entered the Kingdom illegally were seized. The market value of these games is estimated to exceed one million Riyals. The games were confiscated, and the violators were referred to the relevant committees for further legal action.
This action is part of the Authority’s ongoing campaigns across the Kingdom aimed at regulating the trade of electronic games and combating all forms of piracy and counterfeiting in the electronic games sector. It also seeks to ensure compliance with the approved age classifications for electronic games, protect the rights of investors in the electronic games industry, and address any violations that could harm the growth of the electronic games trade.
The Authority has announced that its campaign to cleanse the market of violators in the electronic games trade will continue. It stressed that anyone found involved in these violations will be referred to the relevant committees for necessary penalties, which may include financial fines and revocation of media licenses for the offenders.
