The General Commission for Audiovisual Media signed a cooperation memorandum with the General Authority for Competition to enhance integration and joint coordination in maintaining a competitive environment in the media and advertising sectors. The General Commission for Audiovisual Media stated that the two parties aim, through this memorandum, to build a comprehensive model of bilateral programs for cooperation in promoting and encouraging fair competition in the media and advertising markets. They also aim to educate the public and the business sector about competition rules and the roles of both the Media Authority and the Competition Authority in providing an attractive and stimulating investment environment.
The commission added that cooperation with the Competition Authority will contribute to the effective enforcement of the competition system concerning broadcasting, production, distribution, and sales activities under the supervision of the Media Authority. The goal is to achieve transparency by enhancing constructive communication between government institutions, investors, and consumers, and to strengthen integration, cooperation, and joint coordination in applying regulatory texts and rules that enhance and affirm the competitive climate in the business sector.
The commission also mentioned that workshops will be held to introduce the competition system, its executive regulations, and specialized training programs, and to exchange studies and research in areas that benefit both parties. The signing of the agreement coincides with the launch of the executive regulations of the audiovisual media system by the Media Authority, aimed at implementing competition provisions clearly and fairly and preserving the integrity of the media and advertising markets from unfair practices.
The memorandum was signed by His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Zoom, Governor of the General Authority for Competition, and Badr bin Hussein Al-Zahrani, CEO of the General Commission for Audiovisual Media. This memorandum is part of achieving the goals of Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program 2020, and launching bilateral initiatives to support economic development.
