The General Commission for Audiovisual Media has recently completed the classification of the movie GOLD according to the Saudi film classification system developed by the Commission. GOLD thus becomes the first Bollywood film to be shown on Saudi cinema screens, marking the beginning of a real challenge and competition for Hollywood films, which currently dominate as the most frequently shown and most popular at Saudi box offices. The movie GOLD tells the story of India winning its first gold medal at the 1948 Olympics. Released in 2018, it is one of the latest Bollywood productions, with Bollywood being the largest film industry globally in terms of the number of films produced annually, producing double the number of films as Hollywood.
The head of the cinema sector and director of classifications, Engineer Mohammed Obaidallah, explained that the General Commission for Audiovisual Media has classified over 50 films since the opening of cinemas in April 2018. He welcomed films from around the world, contributing to the diversity of cinematic offerings in Saudi theaters.
